Tadubi JAC warns of agitation

Imphal, February 23 2011: Complaining that villagers have not received the benefit even after an amount of Rs 145 lakhs for laying the pipeline under the Renovation of Old Water Supply Scheme at Tadubi had been sanctioned six years ago, the Joint Action Committee for Renovation of Old Tadubi Water Supply Scheme has decided to restrict transportation of materials related to renovation of the said water supply scheme if necessary remedial measures were not taken up within 40 days.

Talking to The Sangai Express in this connection, convenor of the JAC Athili pointed out that the Government of Manipur had sanctioned Rs 145 lakhs for the renovation of the Supply scheme at Tadubi in 2006 for ensuring water supply to the people of various villages under Tadubi, Mao-Maram sub-division of Senapati district including Makhel, Keibi, Shajouba (Upper & Lower), Tobufii and MPDA areas.

The sanctioned order was signed by then Commissioner of PHED Henry K Heni on September 27, 2006 following a memorandum of agreement arrived at during a joint meeting of representatives of beneficiary villages and officials of PHED including Commissioner Henry K Heni, Chief Engineer GA Joychandra Sharma, SE HS Verypam and EE PHE Division, Senapati L Dhaballo Singh on March 6, 2006, he said.

The convenor explained that renovation of the old water supply at Tadubi had been approved after due consideration of the fact that the earlier system of supplying water to the villages was not sufficient.

Consequently, the work order for renovation of the old water supply scheme had been issued in favour of one contractor identified as K Lamchao Pao of Paomei Colony, Imphal who subsequently made even necessary preparation for laying the pipeline.

Unfortunately, there has been no progress in the renovation work since then, the convenor lamented.

The JAC had also earlier approached PHE Minister TN Haokip in this regard.

But the assurance given by the Minister has not been translated into action so far, he added.

Leaving no other options and as a last resort, the JAC has on February 21 given an ultimatum to Chief Secretary DS Poonia for providing the required pipeline within 40 days.

The JAC has also decided to impose restriction on movement of vehicles related to PHE Department including transportation of construction materials if the Government fails meet the demand within the set deadline, the convenor warned.
