Imphal, December 21 2023: A delegation of Janata Dal (United), Manipur led by its president Ksh Biren Singh called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan today and urged her to extend assistance to artists, actors, technicians in Manipur.

The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Governor highlighting hardships being faced by the artist community and general public, said PRO Raj Bhavan.

The people of the valley, especially the Meeteis/Meiteis cannot travel by road due to the prevailing tension.

Air travel is the only means available to the people of the community, said the JD(U) delegates urging the Governor to provide relief by subsidising the air fare.

The team raised the issue of unavailability of employment opportunities and said the working class are facing extreme hardships.

Financial assistance may be given to skilled and unskilled workers in the State, they said.

The Governor while expressing concern and unhappiness over the hardships being faced by the artist community, said, all sections of the society have been affected by the current crisis.

She assured the delegation that she will ask the Government to work out plans to extend support to the artist community and working class.

Brig (Retd) L Ibotombi Singh also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan this evening and shared proposals for resolving the present impasse in the State.

He suggested that disarmament is a prerequisite factor to bring the situation back to the atmosphere where peace talks can be initiated.

Deployment of security forces based on threats and flash points of violence, to encourage surrender of arms, sealing Indo-Myanmar border etc are some of the points that he suggested to the Governor.

He urged the Governor to fill up the post of Secretary, Rajya Sainik Board and appoint a Director of the Board in the interest of the ex-servicemen in the State.

The Governor welcomed his suggestions put forward for restoration of peace and normalcy in the State and assured to take up steps for the welfare of ex-servicemen in the State.

Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh and Dr Shachi Gurumayum, Founder Trustee, MaolKeki Foundation also called on Governor.

Dr Shachi highlighted various initiatives taken up by the foundation to bring about a change in the rural economy by encouraging agriculture and horticulture in the State.

He said training programmes for agro-entrepreneurs have been conducted where youths from 14 districts, except from Jiribam and Pherzawl, participated.
