Census 'materials' arrive at Imphal PO

Imphal, April 18 2026:
A sizeable quantity of materials which will be used in census operations have arrived at Imphal Post Office.
Notably, there is a strong mass movement in Manipur demanding identification and deportation of illegal immigrants before going ahead with the scheduled census exercise.
A team of the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (CJFD) led by its convenor Jeetendra Ningomba came across the census materials in the godown of Imphal Head Post Office this afternoon.
The team went to the godown on receiving information that a large quantity of census materials have arrived there.

It is said that the census materials which have arrived at Imphal Head Post Office are meant to be used in the census exercise in Imphal West and Imphal East districts.
Speaking to media persons, Jeetendra Ningomba said that Manipur at present has been facing many critical issues and there is neither peace nor stability in the State.
He blamed the illegal immigrants for many of the critical issues besieging Manipur and the protracted unrest.
Now, the illegal immigrants have the audacity to demand a separate administration.
It is imperative for the authorities to first identify and deport all the illegal immigrants before going ahead with the scheduled census exercise, he asserted.
The CJFD convenor once again appealed to the Government to abort its plan of carrying out census operations amid the myriad issues plaguing the State.
He also appealed to all the people to raise a strong and collective voice against the scheduled census exercise.
Earlier speaking at a public meeting held at Ithing Lai Thangjing Hall today, Jeetendra Ningomba accused the Government of ignoring threats being posed by illegal immigration to Manipur's integrity and her indigenous communities.
Even as pressure is mounting on it to delay census exercises and identify illegal immigrants, the State Government has so far shown no interest whatsoever or heed to the genuine appeals of the public, Jeetendra said.
The public meeting, organised by the Ithing Meira Paibi Lup, Sendra Meira Paibi Lup and Khola Meira Paibi Lup, condemned the April 7 Tronglaobi incidents which saw two children killed in a bomb attack and three civilians killed in a subsequent CRPF firing on protesters.
Speaking to the gathering, Jeetendra said Manipur is reeling under many crises borne out of rampant and uncontrolled illegal immigration.
He said the Government is deliberately ignoring the public and their demands for delaying census and identification and deportation of illegal immigrants.
The Government's indifferent attitude towards the people and its failure to crackdown on illegal immigrants have emboldened those who are demanding a separate administration carved out of the State, he said.
While stressing on the issue of illegal immigration, he said Kuki is not recognised and isn't among 135 identified communities in Myanmar.
Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists who had infiltrated into Manipur are operating freely in Manipur and killing civilians in terror attacks.
Yet, the Government has remained mute spectators and not taking up any decisive actions to crackdown on them, Jeetendra said.
The Government of India and the State Government must clarify and give reasons why they have not cracked down on the "terrorists", he added.
