Senapati, May 15 2026:
The Naga People's Organization (NPO) has reacted strongly against an ultimatum served by the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) today.
KIM's ultimatum, which it declared was a final and non-negotiable, was issued demanding release of all Kuki hostages.
Reacting to the ultimatum, the NPO said the Kuki Inpi Manipur should "first remove the dirt from its own face before attempting to lecture others" .
"It is already well known and widely acknowledged in the public domain as to who initiated the culture of taking innocent commuters as hostage," NPO said, recalling the Shangkai case in which 21 Nagas civilians were taken hostages by Kukis.
Those 21 innocent Nagas were not only unlawfully detained but were also looted of all their belongings, NPO said.
The NPO then ridiculed KIM for accusing the Nagas for the ambush that killed three religious leaders in Kangpokpi on May 13 .
Questioning what evidence KIM has for accusing the Nagas, the NPO said, "It is the earnest appeal of the Nagas that they should not be blamed for every unwanted incident occurring anywhere" .
The Nagas of Senapati district strongly condemn the brutal attack and murder of religious leaders, emissaries of peace, it said.
"No civilized society on earth can justify such inhuman actions," added the NPO conveying their deepest condolences, and sharing the pain and grief of the bereaved families.
As all the deceased and injured victims belong to the Thadou community, represented by the Thadou-Inpi, and as the Thadou community harbours strong suspicions against certain Kuki elements in connection with the incident, the Thadou people and their leaders should be in a better position to understand about the unfortunate event, NPO said.
Kukis, the NPO said, should respect the sentiments of the Thadou community and refrain from interfering in the affairs of the Thadou people.
On the hostage situation, NPO said both sides must release all irrespective of the numbers of people taken.
Blaming "dishonesty" of Kuki organisations for failed attempts to secure release of hostages earlier, the NPO said it has been working sincerely to secure safe release of all the persons taken hostage.
"The exchange and release of 14 persons from both sides [today] became possible only through the tireless and sacrificial efforts of Senapati SP, Kangpokpi SP, DIG, 22 Sector Assam Rifles and Commandant, 16th Assam Rifles," it said.
