Imphal, October 14 2025:
Former Chief Minister N Biren Singh has stated that BJP is a National party and as such they cannot take independent decisions pertaining to issues of the State.
He made these remarks to the media at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport around 1 pm today, upon returning from New Delhi after meeting the Central leadership.
In response to a media query, Biren continued that taking a decision on issues pertaining to the State must involve the Central leadership.
He reasoned that BJP is a National party, not a regional one and Manipur is a State of India.
Reiterating that the State cannot make independent decisions, the Heingang AC MLA emphasized that decisions pertaining to issues of the State must be made by the Central leadership.
Biren Singh stated that they visited Delhi to convey the aspirations of the people to Central leaders.
Notably, a group of BJP MLAs who recently travelled to the National Capital to press for the revival of a popular Government, met BJP North East coordinator Sambit Patra and party general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh.
Stating that consultations with the party's Central leaders are necessary for any State-related issues, the former Chief Minister emphasized that decisions cannot be taken randomly.
Whether it is a demand for the withdrawal of President's Rule or the establishment of a popular Government, the Central leadership must be consulted, he added.
There is no rule that mandates a majority party to always lead governance, he said and added that it is obvious for President's Rule to be imposed if law and order deteriorates.
Safeguarding lives and properties is more important than forming a Government, he said and added that as the situations improve people as well as the MLAs desire the return of a popular Government.
He said that they have urged the Central leadership to establish a popular Government.
He, meanwhile, condemned the demolition of Manipur Rajbari at Shillong.
The former Chief Minister said that the land on which the Rajbari is located was leased for 30 years at a cost of Rs 14 crore.
He added that efforts were underway to preserve the Rajbari, with plans to renovate the structure by replacing its worn-out parts and constructing a guesthouse on the same land, he said.
