Imphal, September 12 2025:
Expressing concern over "selective facilitation and arrangements being planned" for the Prime Minister's visit, the Naga Women's Union, as a stakeholder, has demanded equal space to directly engage with the Nation's Prime Minister.
In a press release, NWU stated that they requested the State officials concerned to grant them an appointment with the Prime Minister to hold an inclusive dialogue even for a few minutes.
It underscored that limiting interactions to only certain groups sends a message of exclusion and partiality, which undermines the sentiment of other tribes and communities.
Since the outbreak of violence, Nagas, Nepalis, Pangals and other communities have been balancing the situation with great perseverance in spite of "highly provocative incidents and cases during the conflict", said NWU.
The statement added that Nagas have been bearing the brunt of the conflict indirectly in a civilized manner to facilitate peace in Manipur.
Notably, NWU pointed out that "the women are the keen observers of all the situations happening in Manipur" .
As such, it will be fair and just to give equal opportunities to all stakeholders to register their aspirations and ideas without bias and prejudice, said NWU.
At this crucial juncture, when the entire State is going through unprecedented challenges, the visit of the Prime Minister should have been an opportunity for all the aspirants to meet him.
The apex Naga women's body lamented that such an imbalanced pattern not only undermines the principles of equality but deepens the feeling of deprivation among the "left out communities" .
Demanding an audience with the Prime Minister, NWU has asserted that only inclusive representation can lead to lasting harmony in the State.
