Imphal, February 07 2025:
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has urged the Union Government to establish an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) hospital in the rural area of Manipur.
Making a special mention on day 6 of the ongoing Parliamentary session, the MP said that in recent years 25 AIIMS hospitals have been set up in different parts of the country.
In order to address the health care concerns of the 140 crore population of this country, hospitals like AIIMS need to be established in remote corners of India to provide quality medical facilities to villagers in far flung regions, he said.
With regard to Manipur, the existing medical infrastructure falls short in comparison with the State's population.
People are weighed down with heavy financial burdens as they travel beyond the State to seek medical treatments.
The MP asserted that such circumstances necessitate the establishment of an AIIMS hospital in the rural area of Manipur.
This will help poor people of the State get access to standard medical care and provide treatment for complex diseases such as cancer as a referral hospital, he said.
