Moirang, June 06 2026:
Civil society organisations (CSOs) in Moirang have demanded the arrest of all persons allegedly involved in the murder of Pukhram Premkumar, warning that they would launch democratic agitations if the authorities fail to bring all the perpetrators to justice within five days.
The demand was made during a public meeting held at Shanti Mandop, Moirang Panshang Leikai, jointly organised by the Moirang Kendra Apunba Meira Paibi Ima Lup (MAMPIL), Apunba Nupi Lup (ANUL), Moirang Branch, and Kege Moirang Kendra Apunba Lup (KEMKAL).
Addressing the media after the meeting, MAMPIL president K Padmabati, speaking on behalf of the apex civil society bodies of Moirang, alleged that the fatal stabbing of Premkumar at Hotel Blue Bell, located along Tiddim Road near Moirang Lamkhai on May 30, may have involved more individuals than those currently arrested in connection with the case.
She stated that while Premkumar's wife, Manitombi, has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody in connection with the incident, many residents remain unconvinced that the crime was committed by a single person acting alone.
Referring to statements reportedly made by Premkumar's daughter in the media, Padmabati questioned the release of certain individuals who were earlier detained by police for questioning.
According to her, several circumstances surrounding the incident have raised suspicion among the public.
She alleged that despite Premkumar sustaining serious stab injuries, neither the hotel owner nor individuals present at the hotel took immediate steps to rush him to a hospital.
She further claimed that the alleged cleaning of bloodstains at the scene before a proper investigation was conducted has fuelled public suspicion regarding possible attempts to destroy evidence.
Padmabati also questioned why information about the incident was not immediately communicated to nearby residents or authorities.
She alleged that local residents were informed only after a considerable delay, by which time Premkumar's condition had reportedly become critical and he had to be rushed to a hospital.
She further pointed to reports concerning another individual from Thinungei who was allegedly present at the hotel during the incident and was said to have sustained scratch marks, claiming that such details have increased public suspicion and warrant a thorough investigation.
The CSO leader urged the police to conduct a transparent and impartial probe, identify all those involved, if any, and ensure that every person responsible is brought to justice under the law.
During the meeting, participants unanimously adopted several resolutions.
Among the key resolutions was a demand for the permanent closure of Hotel Blue Bell, where the incident took place.
Following the meeting, representatives of the organisations marched to Moirang Police Station and met the Officer-in-Charge, submitting their demand for the immediate arrest of all individuals allegedly connected with the case and seeking a speedy and comprehensive investigation.
