Imphal, August 13 2023:
An eight member delegation comprising Left party, womens' and lawyers' associations and independent activists visiting Manipur has accused the BJP Government of 'segregating' people' based on ethnic lines in Manipur.
The eight member delegate of Communist Party of India (MarxistLeninist) Liberation (CPI-ML), All India Progressive Women's Association (AIPWA), All India Lawyers Association for Justice (AILAJ) and a Dalit and women rights activist Du Saraswati landed in Manipur on August 10 to take stock of the prevailing situation in Manipur.
The visiting team went on to claim that the segregation of Meiteis and Kukis is a gift of the BJP on the 77th anniversary of India's Independence Day.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club today, Du Saraswati said that they came to Manipur on a goodwill mission to monitor the situation in Manipur and reach out to displaced people.
She continued that they have met hundreds of displaced people taking refuge at relief camps in Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Imphal West and Moirang in Bishnupur.
Du Saraswati said that they are shocked on seeing the alleged political turmoil created by the double engine BJP Government and the way in which displaced people are staying at relief camps.
CPI(ML) leader from Karnataka Clifton D' Rozario claimed that they have never seen a Government which allegedly decimated the social fabric of a society to such a degree and segregated people based on ethnic line.
He alleged that the 'segregation' seen in Manipur was manufactured by the BJP Government.
Claiming further that the violence in Manipur is the consequence of bad governance by the BJP Government, he said that Chief Minister N Biren has already proven his incompetency to restore normalcy in the State .
Instead of visiting Manipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to France, USA etc and the response he gave on the no-confidence motion to discuss the issue in Manipur was pathetic, he added.
People are living at different relief camps set up across the State miserably with even basic services lacking, D' Rozario said and maintained that the relief camp at Akampat, Imphal East is heavily congested, unhygienic and doesn't have sufficient amenities.
The 'frontier' between the valley and hills and the undeclared blockade are detering the transportation of essential commodities such as relief food items and medicines, he added.
It is shameful that the Supreme Court had to intervene to investigate gross and inhumane crimes, the Left wing leader continued and added that resignation of Chief Minister N Biren is necessary to work out a political solution and end the violence in Manipur.
