Imphal, August 13 2023:
Questioning what has Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) done for Manipur in times of crisis/incidents, either it be in ruling or opposition, ever since the party was founded more than 40 years ago; Congress accused BJP of lacking the ability to introspect and recognise its flaws.
Refuting BJP's various allegations against Congress in a press meet held at Congress Bhavan, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) senior spokesperson Hareshwar Goswami questioned what BJP has done for Manipur when it was suffering from crisis and various incidents.
As an opposition party during Congress's rule, BJP should mention the mistakes committed over the last four decades instead of making baseless accusations and failing to introspect on its (BJP) own mistakes, like a responsible political party should.
He recounted that the Manipur had the territorial assembly from June, 1963 and Congress has ruled the state for a total of 36 years.
BJP ruled for a total of six years and two months.
Thus, the state BJP president should not make careless statements and should do well to remember the development works taken up during Congress's rule, he said.
Hareshwar further said that Manipur has seen many communal conflicts.
However, the recent riot is different from the others as it is directly threatening the integrity of Manipur and one community is pushing for separation.
While bandhs/blockades occurred at occasions, the then governments were firm about preserving the state's integrity.
Furthermore, the Kuki-Naga conflict did not only happen during Congress's term.
The state is responsible for controlling the law and order situation but repeated imposition of President's rule also occurred during other parties' rule.
It is wrong to say the then Congress government did nothing during Kuki-Naga conflict.
It (Congress) also resolved the Meitei-Pangal clash within three days.
However, the present conflict has been going on for more than 100 days, despite having a BJP government both at the Centre and state, which is highly unfortunate.
After Kabow Valley was signed awav to Burma (now Myanmar) on January 9, 1834, the people of Manipur were left heartbro* ken.
However, it has been repeatedly alleged that Kabow valley was given away by Congress, which is false.
Kabow Valley was given away in 1834, which is 50 years prior to the establishment of Congress.
Thus, all should stop blaming Congress in this regard when various sources say otherwise, he stated, while informing that party will be looking into what steps could be taken up in this regard.
Hareshwar then asked BJP president Sharda why PM Modi is not speaking on the gang-rape of a Meeti woman, when he spoke up on the viral video before the start of the parliament session.
"Governor Anusuiya visited the two victims in the viral video and gave compensation.
But why has not she visited the Meetei woman who was gang-raped? Why is BJP silent on the missing cases of two students and several others? Why is PM Modi not responding to the separate administration demands till date? Why are the BJP MPs not speaking about the prevailing unrest in Manipur till date?" he further questioned.
