Kuki-Zo women in Kpi protest against Amit Shah's Parliament remark

Making a spirited reprobation of Union home minister's remark in Parliament, the Kuki-Zo women in Kangpokpi held a demonstration near Gamgiphai in Kangpokpi district Sunday.
Around ten thousand Kuki-Zo women participated in the sit-in-protest organised by Kuki-Zo women of Kangpokpi district under the aegis of CoTU's Women Wing.
The protestors held placards with writings like 'We are Indians, not illegal infiltrators', 'Our existence in Manipur predates British Rule', 'We have a historical presence in Manipur preceding India s independence', 'We demand accountability of Union home minister' and 'Amit Shah's disheartening remark is deeply troublesome'.
The protesters also shouted slogans 'Weare Indians', ' WWe condemned Union home minister's remark in Parliament', 'We want Constitutional solution', and 'We want justice'.
According to CoTU Women Wing convener Neinu, Kuki-Zo women in Kangpokpi congregated to demonstrate their disappointment over the disheartening.

She also said that the Union home minister must own his mistake and clarify his tongue slip in Parliament to avoid us paying a heavy price for his tongue slip.
Kuld-Zo women want to convey to Amit Shah that the Kuki-Zo people in Manipur are peace-loving Indians and not illegal infiltrators from Myanmar, she said and urged Union home minister to initiate and expedite the process of bringing a solution to the demand of the Kuki-Zo people on August 17 talks with the UPF and KNO.
Meanwhile, the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills articulated its dismay over Union home minister's statement in Parliament on August 9 that the present violence in Manipur was a result of influx of 'Kukis' from Myanmar following the military coup in February 2021.He said that Kuki-Zo community are saddened over Union home minister's deviation from the actual issue and forging alliance with the fake valley narratives.
