Groups urged to desist from 'donation' drive

Imphal, January 12 2024:
While stating that they are deeply distressed and pained by the unabated extortions from various busi ness establishments in Khuman Lampak area and other places in Imphal by armed groups, Forum for Restoration of Peace (FRPM) and Imphal Naga Forum (INF) have jointly appealed to the groups concerned to refrain from forcible collection of cash for the sake of peace and prosperity.
A release jointly issued by FRPM and INF stated that unidentified armed persons threatened and used abusive language on bus/winger counters, shopkeepers, spa and parlour owners in pursuance of demanding huge amount.
Few shopkeepers have downed shutters following these demands, the joint release conveyed, while observing that there is apprehension and fear in the commercial area as armed groups and extortionists are still at large.
It has become an epicentre of extortions, it added.
Stating that the fragile peace which is in existence in Imphal should not be derailed by such illegal activities, they drew the urgent attention of the state government and urged for beefing up security measures like frisking and checking in Khuman Lampak area.
