Churachandpur, December 09 2021:
Intending candidate in Saikot assembly constituency and youth icon Dr George T Haokip accompanied by his Shining Saikot team visited and paid homage to Khaizamamg Touthang at Bjijang cemetery.
He was joined by the late man's family and relatives.
Dr George T Haokip and his team also visited the Tribal Martyrs' Memorial Park where they paid tributes to the departed nine souls.
Speaking to the media, Dr George pointed out that Manipur is a small state and the people of valley and hills must unite or we all will perish.
The tribal rights and privileges are denied on many occasions.
Equal development and tolerance of others Will only make Manipur a prosperous state, he reasoned but questioned that when tribals were protesting against the three Bills- Protection of Manipur People's Bill, 2015, the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2015, and the Manipur Shops and Establishments (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015 on August 2015 which the tribal people called "Anti-Tribal Bills", why did the then Congress CM went to Delhi to appeal to the President, Prime Minister and home minister for converting the Bills into Acts without understanding the sentiment of the people.
"Neoliberal policy is a common threat, and so all Manipuri people must unite to save the future of Manipur as a whole.
We must forgive and start working together among all the communities," he stressed.
It may be noted here that on August 31, 2015 when the three Bills were passed in the state assembly, Churachandpur became the epicentre of protest against the Bills with the anti-tribal Bills agitation spearheaded by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against Anti-Tribal.
Nine people died in police firing and for months the district was besieged by bandh and public agitation.
