Sit-in demands justice for Roben

The JAC formed in connection with the death of Thokchom Roben (48) under suspicious circumstances, staged a sit-in protest on Thursday at Iroisemba Maning Leikai demanding justice for the deceased.
Roben s/o late Gulamjat of Iroisemba Maning Leikai was found dead charred inside a car at Lamboi Khongnangkhong Awang Leirak Lane No 11 at about 8 pm on March 1 .
He worked as cashier of PHED.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, JAC convenor Irom Phulendro recounted that that Ro ben's car caught fire between 8:05 pm and 8:30 pm.
Despite the fire, Roben was found inside the car, he surmised, and questioned about how the fire started and why no effort was made to escape.
The convenor observed that the fire seemed to have started without any apparent cause.
Questioning why Roben did not exit the car when it started burning, he quoted the police as saying that they (police).
were initially unaware of anyone being inside the car.
"It was only after the flame was put under control by the fire brigade that Roben's body was discovered," Phulendro said, adding that the post-mortem and forensic reports are yet to be received.
He informed that the sit-in protest was organised to express outrage over the unexplained circumstances, and that future actions will be decided in consultation with Roben's family.
Protestors carried placards with messages such as "We condemn the death of Roben", "Establish facts leading to death of Roben" and "Government should take necessary actions as per the law" .
