Support SHGs for state's growth: Principal Secy

Imphal, March 25 2025: Municipal Administration, Housing & Urban Development (MAHUD) principal secretary RK Dinesh has urged the people to extend support to Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and help improve the state's economy.

He made the statement during the inaugural function of a five-day 'Sajibu Keithel-2025' organised under the aegis of Manipur Urban Development Agency (MUDA) at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound on Tuesday.

In all, 70 SHGs under 27 urban local bodies are showcasing various handloom, handicraft and value added items in the fair, which will be held till March 29.Dinesh continued that SHGs are like mini-industries and have the potential to develop into bigger industries with the support of the people.

Thus, he urged for helping to raise the quality of the products of SHGs and ensure a favourable market, while also calling upon the people to visit the fair to encourage the SHGs.

MAHUD director Ngangom Uttam said that MUDA, under MAHUD, is the state implementing agency of National Urban Livelihood Mission.

He informed that while the first phase of the Mission has been completed, the central government is currently working to commence the second phase.

The fair was organised in respect to the buffer period between the two phases and also with the ensuing festivals, explained the director.

He continued that the fair is also being participated by IDPs from relief camps in Imphal East and West districts and urged the people to visit the fair to buy the various products.

He also urged for encouraging and supporting artisans, weavers and entrepreneurs in promoting the indigenous products of the state so as to improve the economy of the state and also help it become self-sustainable.
