Skill training conducted for conflict-hit residents

Wings of Hope Charitable Trust has wrapped up a six-week skill training programme conducted for 30 widows and girls from remote foothill villages to empower families affected by the ongoing conflict in the state.
According to a press release issued by the Trust on Saturday, the training focussed on tailoring, Kauna basket weaving, crochet doll making, and scented candle making.
Some trainees also participated in reeling silk threads from cocoons, providing them with immediate cash earnings.
The participants hailed from Khumbong, Senjam Chirang, Sangaithel, Khurkhul, Pangei, Itham-Nungoi, Oksu Ningthemcha, Takhel, Salungpham, Kakching Khunou, Pangaltabi and Serou villages.
The Trust paid daily transport allowances to the trainees for 42 days as an incentive to attend classes despite the summer heat, and also provided a small honorarium for their services.
A closing day interaction was held to showcase the products made by the trainees.
Members of Sana Janmasthan Club, Moirang Ningthou Leirak, Keishamthong, along with well-wishers and volunteers, attended the event and appreciated the energy, training quality, and concept behind the initiative.
The trainees are now ex -pected to serve as trainers of their respective Self Help Groups.
The programme is part of the second year of Wings of Hope's mission to support 35 families who lost their earning members during the Manipur violence.
These families continue to live in uncertain conditions in remote villages, and the Trust has expanded its support to include education for orphans, livelihood assistance, and periodic general health check ups.
Trust president Lt Col (Retd) L Manongba expressed gratitude to all volunteers, donors, EMA Trust, and Sana Janmasthan Club for their support.
He said that the trust's "hand holding efforts" have offered these families a renewed sense of belonging and confidence.
The Trust, operational since September 2023, relies solely on donations and hopes other organisations and philanthropists will be inspired by its humble efforts, he added.
