Imphal, October 29 2023:
While appealing to all the communities settling in the state to promote harmonious coexistence, Art and Culture commissioner M Joy has emphasised the need for integration of the existing art forms of all the communities for restoration of peace in the state.
Speaking as chief guest during the valedictory function of the month-long theatre training programme on Moirang Parva Tradition and the Narrative Art Festival organised in honour of Padmashree Wareppa Naba at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound here on Sunday, commissioner Joy recalled that during the early days in Manipur, the practice of organising "Lairik Taba", a narrative art form, was in vogue throughout the Mera month of Manipuri lunar calendar.
Noting that the art form which was beneficial to the society in various aspects, has gradually ceased to exist, he also stated that this narrative art form provides insight into a particular topic to the listeners during the early days and enhances their knowledge to a large extent.
Likewise, teachers should impart knowledge to their students through narrations which will help the students to understand more and remember for a long time.
Maintaining that presenting the narrative art forms of various communities in different ways and helping every community to understand it will eventually help in promoting peace and tranquillity in the state, M Joy said that people of different communities need to come together for safeguarding the integrity of the state.
The upcoming generation should also be instilled with the spirit of nationalism and the customs and traditions of every community.
Though there are differences in languages, there can never be communication barrier and gap in art and culture, he said.
Presided over by MSSLC president M Purnamashi, the function was also attended by Crime Against Women and Children superintendent of police Ph Maheswari as guest of honour.
Along with releasing a souvenir on the occasion, certificates were distributed to 56 participants including 28 people staying in relief camps.
The event was jointly organised by Manipur State Shumang Leela Council (MSSLC) and Theatre Mirror.
