Imphal, May 28 2025:
Meira Paibi Numit Observation Committee organised the 27th Meira Paibi Numit on Wednesday at Tharo Devi Lampak, Khurai Salanthong with those gathered offering floral tributes to the statue of Meira Paibi installed.
Speaking as chief guest of the commemorative event, DM College of Arts former principal Dr Ch Shreelara-mani stressed the importance of remembering the contributions and paths forged by women, especially during times of crisis.
Noting that many people are living without even a square meal and are homeless due to the conflict, she called for reflecting on the living conditions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) .

"We were once a self-reliant society that valued dignity and hard work.
In the past, people felt a sense of pride in sustaining them selves through their own efforts.
But now, that spirit of self-sufficiency is waning.
We were once a community moving forward on the strength of a development-oriented economy.
Unfortunately, that foundation seems to have eroded.
Today, we are increasingly dependent on outside aid and support," Dr Shreelaramani observed.
She also pointed out that Manipur's economy began to decline after it came under British colonial rule.
Before that, the region actively engaged in economic exchanges with other Asian markets.
What continues to trouble the Government of India, she said, is the fact that Manipur has a rich and uninterrupted history spanning over 2000 years.
Regardless of which political party is in power at the centre, the attitude and approach of the Government of India towards Manipur will remain unchanged, maintained the chief guest.
She further stated that the Centre imposed the AFSPA in the state, effectively branding every citizen as a potential threat.
"We must exposethe state-sponsored oppression carried out by the Centre against the wider public," she asserted.
Dr Shreelaramani also emphasised the need for Meira Paibi to be recognised as a registered organisation which should guide both the present and future generations by upholding the values and path laid down by our forefathers.
She expressed concern that, without proper support and structure, the Meira Paibi movement may gradually fade away in the future.
Dr Shreelaramani then highlighted the need for Meira Paibi activists to educate younger generations on how to live with self-reliance and not depend on others in any sphere of life.
The function was also attended by Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president and Observation Committee convenor Soraisam Memcha and Meira Paibi Welfare Association Kangleipak president R Rongsongak Koireng as presidium members.
CSO leaders and intellectuals also took part in the function.
