Imphal, June 26 2025:
Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has appealed to the public to refrain from dumping or depositing waste materials, including plastic bottles and bags, at the corner of the northern side of RIMS drain, near Lamphel Traffic Island and opposite to the Officer's Club, Lamphel.
A press release issued by the RIMS Media Cell noted with regret that despite frequent clean-up efforts, including by the RIMS staffers, the said area continues to be misused as an informal dumping site.
With the onset of the rainy season, plastic waste is being washed into the drainage system, resulting in blockage, consequently posing risk of waterlogging, environmental contamination, and spread of vector-borne diseases, affecting both the cofnmuni-ty and the hospital campus.
As such, in line with its commitment to environmental sustainability, RIMS has enforced a ban on the use of plastic bottles within its campus over the past year, with the aim of creating a plastic-free zone that fosters health, hygiene, and ecological responsibility.
The hospital then urged all citizens and commuters to cooperate in maintaining the cleanliness of the public space by depositing waste was only designated sites.
The release stated that strict monitoring and necessary action will be undertaken against the litterers.
