UG cadres arrested with arms, ammunition

Imphal, March 20 2025:
In a series of successful operations, central security forces and Manipur police arrested several cadres of underground (UG) organisations and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from different parts of the state on Wednesday.
According to police, joint security forces apprehended three individuals, including an active cadre of an armed outfit, identified as Khumukcham Ibomcha Singh alias Thabungton (47) of Irengbam Mayai Leikai, Bishnupur district.
The other two arrested persons have been identified as Yumnam Premkumar Singh (42), and Yumnam Anandkumar Singh (36) both of Thingkangphai village, Churachandpur, currently residing at Irengbam village under Nambol police station, Bishnupur district.
Security forces recovered one M-20 pistol with a magazine and two rounds, 34 rounds of 9 mm calibre, five rounds of 7.62 mm (SLR) ammunition, three Baofeng wireless sets, and one set charger from their possession.
In another operation, police arrested an active cadre of the Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), Kangleipak, formerly a member of KCP (Taibanganba), identified as Salam Brojen Singh (47) of Sagang Bazar Mamang Leikai, Bishnupur district.
He was apprehended from Sandangkhong area under Kumbi PS, Bishnupur district.
According to police sources, he was involved in extortion activities and had been threatening government officials.
Eight demand letters in the name of SOREPA, Kangleipak, and a list of 38 schools from Bishnupur district were seized from his possession.
In another operation, security forces arrested a cadre of PREPAK (Pro) identified as Laishram Tomba Singh (27) of Wangjing, Thoubal district, and one cadre of KYKL, identified as Yumnam Roshan Meitei (33) of Wabagai Yangbi Mamang, Kakching district.
The duo was apprehended near Border Pillar 76 on the Indian side in Tengnoupal district.
A huge cache of weapons was recovered from their possession, including one 5.56 mm Light Machine Gun (LMG), three LMG magazines, one LMG magazine drum, 194 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, one 7.62 mm AK-56 rifle, two AK magazines, 125 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, one bayonet for AK rifle, one Motorola set with charger, two ammunition pouches, two sets of combat dress, two rifle slings, and two pairs of jungle shoes.
