Awareness on women's rights stressed

Imphal, July 03 2025:
Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in collaboration with the Centre for Women and Girls, organised a one-day sensitisation programme on the "Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013" on Thursday at the Chandel DC office's conference hall.
The event aims to raise awareness about women's rights in the workplace and to promote safer, more inclusive work environments.
Speaking as a presidium member, MSCW chairperson Th Tiningpham Monsang emphasised the need for women's economic independence.
Citing global research, she noted that women now make up 50 percent of the, world's population and should be equally empowered.
"Women must earn to survive, just as men do.
Both men and women should have equal access to income and opportunities for self-sufficiency," she said.
Monsang stressed the importance of awareness among both men and women to understand and address workplace issues.
She stated that the sensitisation programme was crucial for handling sexual harassment complaints and fostering a safe, respectful workplace.
She added that understanding women's rights is key to ensuring equality and empowerment.
As the main speaker of the event, advocate Th Rajkishor delivered a session on "Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace".
The participants collectively called for continuous education and strict enforcement of the existing Act to ensure women's safety and dignity in workplaces.
The programme was attended by presidium members including W Phajatombi Devi (member secretary, MSCW), T Chuongsin Koireng (MSCW member), Md Firoh Khan (ADC Chandel), and Hechin Haokip (executive director, Centre for Women and Girls), along with government officials, local leaders, and representatives from various organisations.
