Kuki bodies oppose designated camps

Reacting against the proposal of setting up a designated camp for Meitei UG surrenderees in settlements of Kuki-Zo people, Hill Tribal Council, Moreh; Kuki Students' Organisation, Moreh; and Kuki Women's Union & Human Rights, Moreh have objected to the proposal, terming it plan as sinister in nature.
In a joint press release, the Moreh-based organisations, While welcoming the signing of peace agreement between the government of India and the Pambei-led UNLF on November 29, appealed to the Union Home Minister to ensure that no room is created for dissent to stakeholders which could hinder the peace process.
Pointing out that Moreh and Kwatha are located along the international border in addition to being within Tengnoupal hill district of outer-Manipur with Kuki-Zo as the major inhabitants, the joint release said that the proposal to set up designated camp for Meitei UG surrenderees in the vicinity of Kuki-Zo settlement at this time of violence, "is sinister in nature, uncalled for, unwise and not acceptable.
The proposal tantamount to intrusion and is a threat to our existence." The three Kuki bodies also said that the designated camps should be in the valley districts.
