Sankirtan Day celebrated widely

The Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), Imphal, in collaboration with different organisations (Lup) today celebrated the 10th Sankirtan Day 2023 at the auditorium of JNMDA in Imphal.
It was attended by Manipur Legislative Assembly, Speaker, Thokchom Satyabrata Singh; JNMDA Imphal visiting guru Namairakpam Manglembabu Singh; International Sankirtan Day Celebration Committee Imphal president Aribam Brajakumar Sharma and JNMDA Imphal, Director, Pukhrambam Bilash Singh as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Thokchom Satyabrata said that the observation of 10th Sankirtan Day by JNMDA Imphal will play a major role in preserving the unique art form left by forefathers.
"Manipur has a rich repository of traditions and arts.
The State is best introduced to the world through its rich performing arts & culture", he added.
The Speaker also urged all to provide their support in preserving and developing the age-old cultural heritage preserved & bestowed by the ancestors.
Performances of 'Holi Dhon-Dholok' and Sankirtan were also presented during the event.
As part of the celebration, Pukhrambam Bilash accompanied by Laishram Yatra and artists of JNMDA Production Unit today released some fish of different varieties at Loktak Lake.
Similarly, the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur in collaboration with Manipur Nata Sankirtana Apunba also celebrated Sankirtana Day at Shree Shree Ramji Prabhu Mandap in Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, today.
It was attended by renowned filmmaker & Padmashree awardee Aribam Syam Sharma and Art & Culture Commissioner, M Joy Singh as the chief guest & president respectively.
Addressing the gathering, M Joy Singh said Sankirtan of Manipur was inscribed on the Representative List of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity during the eighth session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, held in December 2013 .
He also called for a collective effort to protect & preserve the age-old tradition and culture of Manipur.
MANSA vice president Guru Kh Kriti Singh also spoke on the topic, "Changing scenario of Sankirtana in Manipur" .
Felicitation of eminent Gurus of Sankirtana and performance of 'Ariba Pala', 'Manoharsai', and 'Nata Sankirtana' were the main highlights of the event.
