BJP office owes over Rs 31 lakh in power bill

While Manipur State Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MSPDCL) has been making repeated appeals to the general public, particularly post-paid power consumers to pay due power bills, it has been learnt that the office of the BJP Manipur Pradesh or Thambal Shanglen currently owes a power bill of over Rs 31.48 lakh.
Sources informed The Sangai Express that the Thambal Shanglen currently owes Rs 31,48,315 as power bill to the MSPDCL even though the due date is December 24, 2023 .
In case the BJP office fails to pay the bill before December 24, the due power bill will rise to Rs 31,99,308 after adding surcharge of Rs 50,992.56 .
The power connection given to Thambal Shanglen which bears consumer ID 48689367 (old consumer ID BULK-130) under MSP-DCL sub-division CSD-1 is of post-paid unmetered type.
The power connection given to the Thambal Shanglen is of three phases and is categorised as a bulk consumer while the billing class is HT.
The mobile number given in the power connection document is 9999999999 .
Thambal Shanglen's DTR capacity is 100 KVA while its contracted load and billing demand (A) are 75 KVA each.
The DTR capacity of MPCC office or Congress Bhavan is 750 KVA while its contracted load is 5 KW.
The power connection given to the MPCC office, BT Road is also post-paid unmetered type and its category is commercial LT.It is a single phase connection.
The MPCC office also owes a power bill of Rs 21,855 which is payable before the due date of December 24, 2023 .
Notably, a notice issued by MSPDCL to the general public says that power connection will be disconnected 15 days after the expiry of the due date for paying outstanding power bills without giving any prior information.
It also asks HT power consumers to pay power bills through cheques/demand drafts in the name of HT Revenue Collection Account MSPDCL (Account No 35639213981; bank name: State Bank of India; branch: Paona bazar Branch: IFSC code: SBIN0007440) after filling the consumer's name and consumer number/ID .
As The Sangai Express enquired if the offices of other political parties owe power bills, most of the offices were found to be connected with pre-paid system.
As such, they do not owe any power bill to the MSPDCL.
