Steps taken up for safe harvesting: MLA Ranjit

To ensure that paddy harvesting in vulnerable paddy fields of the constituency could be taken up without any disturbances, steps for adequate deployment of security forces in Sugnu area have been taken up, stated Sugnu MLA K Ranjit.
Addressing violence affected farmers of Sugnu AC during awareness programme conducted as part of Phase-I of Rebuilding Economy through Agricultural Activities, MLA Ranjit said displaced farmers of Sugnu area were provided farm machineries, fertilizer and paddy seeds to cultivate paddy rice at 300 Pari of land in Sungu area amidst the violence so that they do not face food scarcity next year.
However, the worst fear of farmers is that the harvested paddy plants could torched before threshing and accordingly steps for heavy deployment of security forces till the end Poinu month of Manipuri calendar have been made.
District police led by SP along with officers of CRPF, Assam Rifles and Army have already identified vulnerable areas while coordination with power department has been made to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the night, Ranjit said.
The awareness programme was also attended by experts of departments under agriculture and allied sectors namely additional director (horticulture & soil conservation) K Devdutta Sharma, executive engineer (CADA) O Tikendra, joint director (vety) Dr RK Khogendrajit, chief engineer (MI) H Brajendra, director (fisheries) H Balkrishna, chief engineer (water resources) Renmei Alimei, and Sugnu Municipal Council chairperson M Sarat.
According to K Devdutta Sharma, the on-going violence severely affected farmers of the state but the just formed Committee on Agriculture and Horticulture for building economy of the state has taken up certain measures to improve economy of farmers.
He then appealed farmers to avail benefit from experts
of the committee.
