Areca nuts seized, security meet conducted

Assam Rifles seized approximately 8.2 tonnes of areca nuts worth around Rs 70 lakh at a mobile vehicle check post established at Sangaikot junction, Churachandpur district on December 19 .
According to PRO IGAR(S),an input was received regarding a numberless goods carrier truck with illegal areca nuts (Myanmar origin) trying to cross Assam Rifles camp at Sangaikot.
Immediately operation was launched and mobile vehicle check post established at Sangaikot which successfully foiled the smuggling attempt by intercepting the vehicle.
On checking, it was found Out that the vehicle was loaded with around 82 sacks weighing 100 Kg each of illegal Areca nuts, hidden beneath covers, the PRO informed, adding, the vehicle has been handed over to divisional forest officer, Churachandpur district for further investigations.
On she other hand, a security meeting was conducted at Shakpao Company Operating Base in Ukhrul district on Monday with the aim to gauge local perceptions of the prevailing security situation and address the concerns of residents regarding the safety of their villages.
During the meeting, the villagers' concerns were actively addressed, and they were reassured that their security is safeguarded by the vigilant presence of security forces in the region.
The village authorities expressed their wholehearted support and appreciation towards Assam Rifles for organising such a meaningful and relevant activity for them, the PRO conveyed.
