Woman found dead, brother suspects foul play

Imphal, March 07 2025:
A 31-year old married woman was found dead in a pond at Malom Makha Leikai under Nambol police station on Friday morning.
The deceased woman has been identified as Chingtham Ningol Thokchom Ongbi Matouleibi (31) w/o Thokchom Tomba of Malom Makha Terakha Tulihal.
Matouleibi, whose parental home is at Changangei Maning Leikai, is survived by her husband and three kids.
According to a police report, Matouleibi's body was found in the pond around 5.30 am Friday.
A mobile forensic ream arrived at the scene and conducted inquest of the body, following which Nambol PS registered a UD cases.
Matouleibi's body has been deposited at RIMS morgue where post-mortem examination conducted, but the family declined to claim the corpse.
The cause of death has not been established, the report conveyed.
Meanwhile, Matouleibi's elder brother Chingtham Arjun who spoke to media persons at RIMS morgue, claimed that his brother-in-law Tomba, who is jobless and alcoholic; along with his (Tomba) family used to falsely accuse his sister of having extra-marital rela tions with a non-Manipuri.
They also subjected his sister both to physical and verbal harassment, prompting her to return to her parental home on several occasions.
Arjun continued that one of the slippers worn by Matouleibi was found in a ground near the pond and the other pair next to her body.
Her hair was chopped off haphazardly and the body found lying on the stairs of the pond, indicating it was not a drowning case.
They were also no signs of the death by suicide, he asserted and urged authorities concerned to thoroughly investigate the death and deliver justice.
