MSCW celebrates IWD with women, girls with disabilities

Imphal, March 20 2025:
Under the sponsorship of Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), All Tribal Disabilities Union and Wheel Chair Basket Ball Association along with Deaf Welfare Organisation, Manipur jointly organised International Women's Day celebration cum Consultation on Ground Situation and Conditions of Women with Disabilities at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, MSCW chairperson Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang noted that the celebration was the first of its kind ever held in connection with International Women's Day with special-women in Manipur.
She also urged the participants not to remain confined within the four walls of their homes but to pursue knowledge and seek their own opportunities.

The Commission has created a platform for each participant to celebrate and share their stories, informed the chairperson.
MSCW member secretary W Phajatombi Devi said that the Commission is ready to extend help in all possible ways.
Encouraging PwDs to strive for overcoming societal pressures and prejudiced mind-set, she appealed to everyone to have the will to march ahead.
She said that every human being is not perfect but rather living with some or other kind of disabilities, and each differently abled person has some or other uniqueness which stands out from the crowd.
Taking examples of Paralympians, renowned writers and singers, she added that one needs to be morally strong enough and knows one's own rights despite all kinds of hardships the society imposes.
During the discussion, which focused on the hardships one faces while going to police station or hospitals, one of the participants requested the government to have a disable-friendly environment either in hospitals or in police stations.
Some of the participants also expressed their challenges including inability to access higher level college facilities in the state which has limited their knowledge levpl as compared to their peers in other states.
They further urged the government to employ proper interpreters in all departments to harness a friendly and cooperative environment while accommodating them.
MSCW members Lourembam Dayabati Devi, T Chuongsin Koireng, Sk Sophia Moyon and around 50 special-women were also among the participants.
