Put up black flags as tribute to forefathers: Sanayaima

United National Liberation Front (UNLF) former chairman RK Sanayaima (Meghen) has urged all in the state to put up black flags in front of their houses from next year onwards, as part of extending condolences and tribute to the patriots who fought against the British for the sovereignty of Manipur.
He made the statement during the observance of Patriots' Day observed by Organising Committee of Patriots ' Day at the memorial of Bir Tikendrajit at Hee-cham Yaichampat on Wednesday morning.
As part of the observance, floral tributes were offered and salute presented by members of Huiyen Lalong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanayaima pointed out that the day is observed to commemorate the most important episode in the history of Manipur.
He continued that the song "Pari Imom Shamu Panganba Sha", which was first sung circa 1969, is close to the heart.
"This led to the growth of patriotic movement, and inspired for development and preservation of Manipur.
These are the legacy of our forefathers and it is our obligatory responsibility to remember their sacrifices," Sanayaima maintained.
He then stressed the need for imparting lesson on Manipuri forefathers who sacrificed their lives for the motherland to contemporary and future generations.
He suggested all households to put up black flags in front of their houses from next year onwards to show solidarity.
The main event of the observance was held at Kakwa Youth Club (KYC) community hall at Kakwa Laishram Selungba Leikai on Wednesday.
The observance was attended by Sanayaima as chief guest, and Committee president L Chan-drakumar Singh as president.
Retired additional chief engineer Kh Khamba, JNIMS former director Dr L Deben Singh, Sahitya Akademi awardee Dr Thokchom Ibohalbi Singh, YWO advisor RK Dilip Singh, DMU associate professor Longjam Saratchandra, Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School principal Ph Landhoni Devi, social worker E Sobit, KYC advisor Ashangbam Rajen, LHINL president Th Subhashchandra, HLMTTCA Manipur president Dr G Bisheshwor Sharma and AMRPSWA president Laishram Joy as special invitees.
As part of the observance, prizes were distributed to the winners of a patriotic song competition.
