Three accused of bid to defraud MLAs arrested

Imphal, March 11 2025:
Three persons have been arrested for impersonating union home minister Amit Shah's son, Jay Shah, in a fraudulent scheme targeting MLAs in Manipur.
The accused allegedly made calls to state's legislators, including assembly speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, demanding Rs 4 crore for the chief minister's post.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Uvais Ahmad (19), son of Sagir Ahmad from Nidhauli Kalan, Etah district, Uttar Pradesh; Gaurav Nath (19), son of Bahadur from Sapera Basti Gharoli, Ghazipur, East Delhi; and Priyanshu Pant (19), son of Basant Bhallav Pant from GD Colony, Mayur Vihar Phase-3, East Delhi.
According to police, the fraudulent calls were made during the first two weeks of February.
A case was registered under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cheating and impersonation.
Following investigations, a team from Imphal police station, after securing a warrant of arrest from the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Imphal West, and obtaining approval from the CJM of Udham Singh Nagar, arrested Uvais Ahmad and Gaurav Nath on March 5, and Priyanshu Pant on March 7 .
The three accused were brought here on Tuesday morning.
Police stated that they have substantial evidence against the individuals, who will be produced before the court on Wednesday.
