DC calls for healthier future of younger generation

Bishnupur, April 08 2025:
Deputy commissioner Lourembam Bikram, on Tuesday inaugurated Poshan Pakhwada 2025 for Bishnupur district at Oinam Awang Leikai Public Hall.
The programme organised by the district administration in collaboration with the district's ICDS Cell as part of the union government's ongoing efforts to combat malnutrition will be observed throughout April.
This year's Poshan Pakhwada focuses on four key themes: the first 1,000 days of life, popularisation of the beneficiary/citizen module of the Poshan tracker, management of malnutrition through CMAM, and healthy lifestyle to address obesity in children.

Speaking as chief guest, Lourembam Bikram underlined the significance of conducting such awareness drives in villages and towns, away from district headquarters, to ensure the message reaches the grassroots.
He emphasised the necessity of community-level awareness across the campaign's key focus areas and highlighted the role of technology, particularly the Poshan tracker, in enhancing implementation and monitoring.
The deputy commissioner also voiced concern over the growing incidence of childhood obesity, attributing it to lifestyle shifts, and called for widespread awareness campaigns to mitigate the issue and build a healthier future for the younger generation.
In her address, district programme officer H Mi-tabina Devi, stressed the importance of holistic child development and the shared responsibility of both parents in raising healthy children.
She also underscored the role of routine immunisation in safeguarding infant health.
Meanwhile, as a resource person of the programme, District Hospital, Bishnupur child specialist Dr Khumanthem John provided insights into the significance of a balanced diet for expectant mothers, breastfeeding women, and infants.
The event was also attended Dr L Raichandra, chief medical officer Bishnupur; Gunamani Devi, ZEO Bishnupur; and Indrani Devi DCPU Bishnupur.
Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs), supervisors, Anganwadi workers, and helpers were also in attendance.
As part of the programme, the dignitaries distributed food baskets to pregnant women to support their nutritional needs during pregnancy.
