Sit-in staged against AR atrocities

Reacting to the alleged inhuman acts of AR personnel towards the public at Pallel on Saturday, a sit-in demonstration was held at Ningthoukhong bazar during which the protestors shouted various slogans against the AR.
The sit-in was organised jointly by Apunba Lup Ningthoukhong and Ningthoukhong Bazar Keithel Phambi Ima Lup.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Lup vice president RK Tombisana contended that the armed Kuki militants taking advantage of closeness with the Assam Rifles have been attacking the Meiteis ever since the ethnic violence broke out on May 3.The president further stated that the indifferent attitude of the central government towards Manipur despite the state being a part of the Indian union is very unfortunate and is an attempt to create a civil war in Manipur.
The Assam Rifles instead of protecting the people are attacking innocent public by firing tear gas shells, smoke bombs and rubber bullets.
On Friday, the Assam Rifles resorted to assaulting the public at Pallel by firing towards them.
Such acts of the Assam Rifles are condemnable in the strongest terms.
The meira paibi groups along with the civil society organisations are all set to launch a civil war if the Assam Rifles are not completely removed from the state, she added.
Later the protestors shouted various slogans like "Remove Assam Rifles from Manipur", "Suspend AR personnel who assaulted women" and "Long Live'Manipur" .
