Effigies of top leaders burnt, farmhouse torched

In denunciation of the killing of two Meitei civilians in the Pallel incident on Friday and failure of the state and central governmerits to bring solution to the current crisis, enraged meira paibi activists of Langmeithet set ablaze effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home minister Amit Shah and chief minister N Biren Singh at Langmeithet on Saturday.
Effigies of the trio as well as BJP Manipur president A.Sarda were set on fire to denounce failure of the state and central governments to put an end to the over four-month long violence in the state by volunteers of Sana Khongnang Makhong Apunba Nupi Lup, Singjamei Chingamakha.
Along with burning the effigies, the protestors shouted slogans condemning alleged atrocities committed by the Assam Rifles on the Meira Paibis at Pallel and decrying the failure of the state and central governments to restore peace and normal cy in the state.
Meanwhile, in what could be continuation of the ethnic violence, a farm house owned by Banu Angami and located in Shantipur in Kanglatongbi, near Indira Gandhi Tribal University, was set ablaze by suspected Kuki militant around 7 pm Friday.
The farm house was under the care of a Nepali family at the time of the incident.
Though a team from Sekmai police station rushed to the scene and conducted search operation, no one has been arrested as police continued to investigate the incident to ascertain the identity the perpetrators.
