Bishnupur, December 27 2023:
Social activist Rk Sanayaima has stressed the need for remembering Pukhramba Kajao, his role, strength and valour during these trying times.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony of Pukhramba Kajao Pheengang statue constructed and installed under the supervision of Health and Family Welfare minister Dr Sapam Ranjan at Kangmong on Wednesday, Rk Sanayaima recounted how the then British rulers tried to colonise Manipur.
In 1891, British political agent Grimwood and Assam chief commissioner Quinton came to Manipur and tried to conquer Manipur by attacking Kangla.
The Manipuri soldiers defeated them and took captive five of them including Grim-wood.
After trial at Manipur Darbar, Pukhramba Kajao killed Grimwood with his spear.
As such, people should remember how Pukhramba Kajao stood firm against the colonial acts, he maintained.
