Legal services, medical camps held for IDPs

Kakching/Tengnoupal, March 22 2025:
National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) executive chairman and Supreme Court Judge Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai on Saturday virtually inaugurated free legal services camps and medical camps at Kakching Indoor Stadium and Khomdonbi Memorial English School, Kakching Khunnou, Kakching district, and Tengnoupal High School, Tengnoupal district headquarters, Yatri Niwas, Moreh, and Kwatha.
It may be mentioned that a five-member SC judges delegation led by Justice B R Gavai arrived in the state on Saturday.
The delegation, comprising Justices B R Gavai, Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, M M Sundresh, K V Viswanathan, and N Kotiswar, is also in the state to attend events marking the 12th anniversary of the Manipur High Court on Sunday.
Under the Legal Services Authorities (LSA) Act, 1987, NALSA provides free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of society to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen due to economic or other disabilities, thereby promoting justice based on equal opportunities.
At Kakching, around 700 people availed of the facilities at the camps, which were jointly organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Thoubal, and the Kakching district administration, sponsored by the Manipur Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) under the aegis of NALSA.
The programme was attended by Kakching DC Rohit Anand, chief medical officer Dr Thaodem Rajen Singh, Judicial Magistrate First Class Thoubal Ksh Ma-heta Devi, Judicial Magistrate First Class Kakching Neera Sinam, Kakching District Bar Association president N Modhu Singh, Kakching SDO Kherdananda Potsangbam, and Waikhong SDO Takhellambam Millikan Singh.
As part of the event, essential relief materials were also distributed to the IDPs.
The legal services camps were conducted to connect IDPs with government welfare programmes, ensuring access to vital benefits such as healthcare, pensions, employment schemes, and identity document reconstruction.
The medical camps provided facilities related to medicine, surgery, obstetrics & gynaecology, sports medicine, paediatrics, respiratory medicine, CTVS, forensic medicine, and pathology.
Additionally, different essential medicines were distributed.
On the other hand, a Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign was organised by the district election office, Kakching, at the two locations where facilities were made available for the addition of new voters, as well as for the deletion or correction of existing entries in the electoral roll.
As part of the campaign, free T-shirts and caps were distributed.
Meanwhile, a mega legal services camp was held at Tengnoupal High School, Tengnoupal district head quarters, while medical camps were held at Tengnoupal High School, Yatri Niwas, Moreh, and Kwatha.
As many as 150 IDPs from various relief camps in Tengnoupal HQ, Chehlep, Chahmol, Loissi, and Phalbung attended the mega legal services and free medical camps at the venue.
Altogether, 16 stalls were put up by various departments to provide assistance.
The forest department distributed saplings, the agriculture department distributed vegetable seeds, the health department distributed medicine free of cost, and the social welfare department provided services for applying for old age/widow pensions and financial assistance.
The event was attended by DC Krishna Kumar, SP Rahul Gupta, CJM, ADC, DFO, Tengnoupal SDO, CMO, among others.
The function was jointly organised by DLSA, Chandel, Tengnoupal district administration, and CMO under the joint aegis of NALSA and MASLSA.
