Day 2 of shutdown normal across districts

The second day of the 3-day total shutdown called by the United Naga Council (UNC) was enforced peacefully across several districts.
Markets in Chandel remained shut and vehicular movement restricted.
No untoward incidents were reported during the day.
Volunteers stationed at various points across the district were seen enforcing the shutdown, called condemning the TM Kasom ambush of April 18 which killed two Tangkhul Naga persons, including a retired Army man.
The Anal Central Working Committee (ACWC) volunteers, led by convenor Ts Beton, visited Larong Khullen in the Sulam area and set up a blockade along the Tengnoupal-New Samtal road.
The Naga Students' Union Chandel (NSUC) executive team, under the leadership of their president RL Elly, visited Salluk village in Chakpikarong subdivision to express solidarity with local volunteers.
A team from the Chandel Naga People's Organization (CNPO), led by its president Thamdok Francis, also visited Khangshim near Kakching Lamkhai to extend support.
In Chandel district headquarters, the Anal Naga Tangpi Association (ANTA) members led by its president Ps Monihring, visited several blockade points including Hnatham, Chandel Christian, Beru Angthi, Japhou Bazar, Riverlane, Panchai and Cheengkhu.
Speaking to media persons, ANTA president Monihring expressed satisfaction over the overwhelming cooperation and support extended by Anal villages and the general public, noting that the shutdown was enforced smoothly without affecting emergency services.
Vice president of Anal Sinnu Ruwl, Tonila, lauded the crucial role played by the Anal women in enforcing the shutdown and urged people to turn up in large numbers for the scheduled candlelight vigil on the final day.
Highlighting inter-community unity, joint secretary of Japhou Bazar Authority, Ningam, appreciated the collective effort of communities including Anal, Lamkang, Monsang, Khoibu, Maring and Tangkhul in ensuring the success of the shutdown.
The Chandel Bus Owners' Association (CBOA), led by its president T Bingky and secretary Rl Joylar; Chandel police under SP Dharmendra Tyagi; Japhou Bazar Authority under chairman Js Angam; and ANTA under its president Monihring provided refreshments and drinking water to volunteers stationed at various points.

The second day of the shutdown was peaceful in T Khullen and adjoining areas amid restrictions imposed under Section 163 of the BNSS.
While commotion and tension were reported in T Khullen earlier, the situation on Wednesday was calm.
Security forces, including police and Army personnel, have been deployed in large numbers across sensitive areas to maintain law and order and prevent
any escalation of tension.
