Imphal, March 20 2025: Even as Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be hard to understand, sparking uncertainty and mistrust, its innovative use in education is revolutionizing how students learn, interact, and grow.

Speaking to The Sangai Express in this regard, Navanath Saharia, an Assistant Professor at IIIT Manipur, said that AI is transforming how students learn and interact with educational content.

Saying that AI-powered learning platforms are gaining global popularity as it modernises education, he added that students can now access personalized learning experiences on smartphones and devices with AI capabilities.

He also said that online portals like SWAYAM (swayam.gov.in) provide a wide range of online courses and degree programs, offering learners the flexibility to explore various interests and develop new skills. These platforms also provide personalized learning, automated grading, and feedback, Navanath added.

Continuing that AI has transformed education with innovative tools for personalized learning, study assistance, time management, research, writing and language learning, test preparation, career guidance and global education access among others, he said that there are also many AI tools which create personalized learning plans tailored to each student's strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles.

AI-powered tools also assist students with disabilities, particularly those with visual or hearing impairments to interact with educational content more easily, he added.

Further stating that AI tools and apps like ChatGPT can also serve as personalized tutors, offering one-on-one support and guidance, Navanath maintained that AI powered educational games and simulations, on the other hand, make learning more engaging, interactive and fun.

AI offers a wide range of benefits to students and its impact on education is likely to increase in the coming days, he said.

This reporter also spoke with several students, who shared varying perspectives on AI's role in education.

While some students view AI as a game-changer, others are concerned it may replace human teachers and create unrealistic expectations.

Despite their differing views, the students agreed that AI should be used responsibly, with regular checks on its limitations and evaluations of its learning outcomes.

Similarly, teachers also hold diverse views on AI's transformation of education.

While some teachers are optimistic, believing AI tools will enhance their teaching without replacing them, others are concerned that AI may displace human educators.

These differing views reflect both the enthusiasm and concerns of teachers regarding AI's impact on education.
