Imphal, February 12, 2011:
Campaigning for the Konthoujam byelection was elevated to a higher pitch today as political parties, candidates and their supporters made last ditch efforts to woo voters before the campaign period came to end at 4 pm today.
On the other hand, all the 28 polling stations have been classified as sensitive and hyper sensitive.
Stringent security measures have also been initiated at the polling stations.
Along with stationing two sections of central para military forces at each polling station, patrolling exercises have also been intensified.
Before the campaign period came to an end today, supporters of the three candidates were seen canvassing with impressive words and rhetoric in animated manner using loudspea- kers at different places of Konthoujam A/C. At all the polling stations, camps of different candidates were found erected where groups of people were seen congregating together.
Polling station 18/13 (Konthoujam Lairembi High School) is one polling station worth watching for as it is the home polling of both Trinamool Congress candidate K Sarat and another rival candidate.

Meanwhile, it is reported that out of three workers of independent candidate Kh Ranjit reportedly pulled up by police yesterday, two have been freed while the third has been held back.
A press release issued by Manipur Trinamool Congress spokesperson Th Inaocha has accused State Election Commission as well as the election observer of remaining mute and desisting from their duty even as the ruling Congress party has been violating all rules and norms.
Directing police to remove Trinamool Congress flags from Konthoujam Kabui Khul road while allowing Congress flags to be put along the same road appears to be conspiracy between the Congress-led Government and the election observer, he added.
