Imphal, September 11 2025:
Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay foundation stones and inaugurate various development projects worth Rs 8,500 crore on September 13, some BJP MLAs are reportedly unhappy with the Central leadership for not consulting them about the projects to be announced.
Some BJP MLAs, while speaking to The Sangai Express about the anticipated visit, said they welcome the Prime Minister's visit, although late.
Stating that merely laying foundation stones and inaugurating a few projects would not be enough to restore public confidence, these MLAs noted that people have been enduring undue hardship and living in a state of unrest since May 3, 2023 .
They also said that many people have died, several are missing, and tens of thousands are languishing in relief camps after their homes were burnt down amid the crisis.
Both Meiteis and Kukis are also still unable to move across the State including along the highways, they said.
Further stating that the Prime Minister did not consult any party MLA about the projects and schemes to be undertaken or inaugurated in Manipur, they said that it would have been better if the Prime Minister or other Central leaders had engaged with them beforehand.
Saying that BJP North East in-charge Dr Sambit Patra and Manipur in-charge Ajit Gopchade, who are currently in the State, have also not disclosed any information to them, they warned that the State may reel under a fresh wave of unrest if the Prime Minister announces projects which the people oppose.
The BJP MLAs also expressed concern that they would be blamed if the Prime Minister announces projects or makes statements perceived by the public as being against their interests, especially given the tension in Manipur.
Reiterating that the Prime Minister should have at least consulted them ahead of the visit to understand the aspirations of the people, the MLAs said they were, however, not given any information.
They expressed discontent over the Prime Minister's plan to announce projects for Manipur after consulting only bureaucrats, while excluding the party's own legislators.
These MLAs also said they don't know what to tell the people of Manipur, who have been pressuring them to ensure free movement along the highways.
Nonetheless, they expressed optimism that the Prime Minister will act in the people's interest, which would also benefit the party.
