Imphal, July 10 2010: An extortionist said to be an activist of KRA was caught by villagers of Litanpokpi under Saikul police station today evening and handed over to troops of 23 Assam Rifles posting at Sagolmang.

Reports said that the extortionist was caught by the villagers while entering to a house at about 6.20 pm and handed over to the AR authority later.

Meanwhile, eight activists, four each of Zoumi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) and UNLF were nabbed by the commandos of Imphal in separate operations in the last two days.

The four ZRA activists were nabbed in a joint operation with 26 Assam Rifles, stated the Senior SP, Imphal west district said.

The statement claimed that the four ZRA activists were nabbed by a combined force of police commandos and troops of 26 Assam Rifles from near the Don Bosco gate at about 10 o'clock today.

They were identified as Rolen Haokip (30) son of Hemang Haokip of Sapermaina Henglang, Helen @ Jangkholen Khongsai (24) son of Letkam Khongsai of Sapermaina Chalkot, Seithang @ Thangboi Haokip (23) son of Onpao Haokip of Sapermaina Mongjang and Minthang Haokip (29) son of late Thanglam Haokip of Sapermaina Sbolen.

During spot verification, police revealed that they were working for KCP and assigned for extortion of money from the general pulbic and government employees and also recovered two 9 mm pistol along with magazine loaded with live rounds in it, the statement added.

Another separate statement of the Senior SP further said that commandos of the district apprehended four activists of the UNLF yesterday.

Two of them were nabbed in a follow up action to the nabbing of two from Nagamapal.

The commandos apprehended Laishram Mathen Khuman (32) son of L Dama of Uripok Khoisnam Leikai and Mayanglambam Shanouton @ Shanou (40) son of late Chaoba of Nagamapal from Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak at about 4.10 pm yesterday.

In the follow up action based on disclosure made by them two more activists identified as Meitram Rambo @ Shanta @ Yaishulsana (22) son of late Inaocha of Moirangkhom sougaijam Leirak and Laishram Bimol @ Joy (34) osn of L Khamba of Heirangoithong, the statement said.

The first two were working under the command of self style assistant revenue officer Benjamin of UNLF and they had extorted a sum of Rs 40,00,000 from government offices like the PWD, Social Welfare, DRDA etc.

as party fund and handed over to the part, the statement alleged.

The last two are also working under Benjamin and two 9 mm pistol with magazines and live rounds were seized from their possessions, the statement added.
