A high level meeting presided over by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has discussed on successful conduct of the Queen's Baton Relay to be held on July 27 to 28 at Imphal as part of the Commonwealth Games to be hosted by India at New Delhi in October this year.
Conveying this, Sports Minister N Biren Singh, who is also the SPF spokesman, said the meeting held this morning and attended by Ministers, MOA president, Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board, MLA Bijoy Koijam, Chief Secretary, DGP, Commissioner (Home), Commissioner (YAS) and Commissioner (Works) decided to make the event a grand success.
Informing that gates would be constructed and hoardings would be put up all along the route through which the Baton Relay would pass through in Imphal, the Minister said that gold medallist players in the Police service would be among the personnel who would be deployed for duty during the Baton relay.
The Queen's Baton would be brought to Imphal from Dimapur in an Indian Airline flight by the officials of the organising committee of Commonwealth Games and the Imphal leg of the relay would be flagged off from the historic Kangla fort here.
From Kangla, the relay would pass through Nityaipat Chuthek, Keishampat, Keishamthong, Moirangkhom, Chingamakhong, Kongba, Wangkhei, Palace Compound and come out at Nityaipat Chuthek again before heading toward Khoyathong and Khuman Lampak Sports complex, where it would be concluded along with a function and an impressive cultural extravaganza.
The Minister further informed that in all 16 State Olympians and International Players would be participating in the Baton relay.
To mark the occasion, a tree plantation programme would also be held at Khonghampat on July 28 .
After the Imphal leg of the rally, the Queen's Baton would be flown to Mizoram capital Aizawl.
