Imphal, July 10 2010:
Stating that the district police is appreciative of AMSU in sensitizing the public about shortage of essential goods and the drive to unearth hoardings by some individuals, the Senior SP of Imphal West L Kailun, however, made it clear that district police cannot remain a mute spectator when AMSU volunteers forcibly seize goods from the owners and announce open sale at its office at the loss of the owners.
In a statement, Kailun explained that Deepak Gupta of Dharmasala brought 100 bags of rice from Kanglatongbi for selling in Imphal but AMSU volunteers seized them from DM College Road at around 10 am yesterday.
Similarly, Mehendra Prasad of Dharmasala also brought 20 bags of rice and six packets of mustard oil from Ukhrul for selling in Imphal, but the same was seized by AMSU volunteers from DM College Road yesterday.
The district police today stopped and disallowed the open sale of AMSU of the illegally seized goods, the SSP said, while clarifying that the office bearers of AMSU have not be arrested as reported but detained for questioning and they were released after questioning.
