Imphal, November 08 2025:
Different groups representing internally displaced persons (IDPs) have urged the State and Central Governments to review the recent Home Department order that reduced the daily ration allowance for IDPs from Rs 100 to Rs 84 per person per day.
The reduction in ration allowance has caused immense hardship to displaced families amid skyrocketing prices of essential items, as the monetary assistance is also used for education and other emergencies, said a joint press release issued by Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims (COPMeV), Moreh; Churachandpur Meitei United Committee (CMUC), Meetei Council Moreh (MCM), Meitei Union Kangpokpi (MUK), Apex Committee of Victim Villagers (Ekou, Sadu Yengkhuman, Dolaithabi, Leitanpokpi and Mairenpat) and Torbung Gram Panchayat Victim Committee (TGPVC) .
Condemning the reduction in their ration allow- ance, these groups urged the Government to reinstate the Rs 100 per person per day allowance given the hardship being faced by the displaced families.
They continued that the office memorandum issued by the Government on June 9, 2023, fixed the daily ration allowance for IDPs at Rs 100 per person, of which Rs 20 is deducted for 400 grams of rice, but the recent order issued on October 21, 2025, slashed the ration allowance to Rs 84, which they said is insufficient.
Acknowledging the different initiatives taken up by the Centre and the State Government for the wellbeing of the IDPs, they urged the Government to review the decision and reinstate the daily allowance of Rs 100 per person through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme.
Notably, a few days back, IDPs taking refuge at Sajiwa and Sawombung relief camps returned the daily ration allowance for November amounting to Rs 11.74 lakh to the Government as a form of protest against the reduction in the daily allowance.
