Disunity amongst BJP MLAs reason for prolonging crisis: MP

Imphal, May 03 2026:
It was the disunity and differences among the ruling party's MLAs and Ministers and their failed governance that plunged Manipur into an unprecedented crisis, said Lok Sabha MP Dr Akoijam Bimol today.
Manipur has seen some violent conflicts, but the lack of cohesiveness within the BJP-led Government, among their MLAs, Cabinet Ministers seen in the ongoing conflict is unprecedented, he said.
The MP's statement came as the Manipur conflict which erupted on May 3, 2023 completed 3 years today.
Dr Bimol was attending a foundation laying function at Patsoi Part-I Awang Lampak for construction of a multipurpose community hall.

Speaking at the event, the MP said while the Meiteis had always been careful to foster and preserve peaceful coexistence of all communities, it unfortunately fell into a trap devised to divide Manipur on May 3, 2023.He then blamed the BJP-led Government at the time for failing to curb violence in time.
The Government was so fragmented inside that they couldn't contain the violence, he said.
During the Naga-Kuki conflict in the past, Congress' Gaikhangam, who was then a Minister, visited Kangpokpi and negotiated for peace, Dr Bimol said.
The cohesiveness that existed among the Cabinet Ministers then helped curb and control violence.
The same level of cohesiveness was also there among the bureaucrats and police officers, he said.
Former DG Doungel, who is a Kuki officer, was posted as the Superintendent of Police in Tamenglong, a Naga area, at the time, and he was able to perform his duties among the Nagas during the conflict, Dr Bimol said.
However unfortunately, such cohesiveness among the MLAs, Ministers, bureaucrats and police is not seen during the ongoing conflict, Dr Bimol said.
Now, not only the politicians and the party, even the police are divided, and there is a serious lack of cohesiveness, he said.
While some of the MLAs and Ministers are vowing to protect Manipur's integrity, some of their colleagues are demanding a Separate Administration, Dr Bimol said.
While the then Congress' Government was able to form peace committees to resolve the conflict, the BJP-led Government has so far failed to form an effective committee, he added.
Dr Bimol then recalled that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had tried to "normalise" the violence in Manipur in the Parliament stating that "the conflict was not new and it had always been there".
The MP further alleged that the people of Manipur have been denied the right to life guaranteed by the Constitution by preventing them from accessing their homes, the airport etc by the security forces in their attempt to maintain "buffer zones".
Khundrakpam AC MLA Th Lokeshwar and former Minister AK Mirabai and president of the construction committee (multipurpose hall) L Dineshwar attended the event.
