Imphal, November 30 2024:
Strongly condemning the brutal killing of women and children who were abducted in Jiribam recently, the All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) has called for immediate cessation of violence.
"Our hearts are heavy as we condemn in the strongest terms the brutal killings of innocent people, including women and children, who were abducted from a relief camp in Borobekra and subjected to horrific violence, including rape and murder.
AMCO is heartbroken by these barbaric acts, which we consider not only crimes against humanity but also an abomination before God," it said in a statement.
AMCO held an executive meeting today and observed a solemn moment of silence to honour the lives tragically lost amidst the violence, it said.
"AMCO questions the perpetrators' claim to any religious or moral authority in the face of such cruelty.
The erosion of moral integrity and the failure of State institutions to prevent such heinous acts are a source of deep concern for us," it said.
The organisation voiced concern for the missing Meitei man, Laishram Kamalbabu and called on authorities to trace him.
It urged all concerned to spare the lives of innocent people including children and called on all stakeholders, regardless of community or religion, to cease hostilities and work towards peaceful coexistence.
"Despite heavy security presence since May 2023, vulnerable women and children remain unprotected, and violence persists.
The reimposition of AFSPA has failed to restore peace.
We urge those in positions of power to act swiftly to restore order and normalcy, prioritizing peaceful solutions over militarization," AMCO said.
Wishing Christmas to bring hope and peace, it appealed for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the violence.
It encouraged Churches across the State to lead in prayer, seeking God's intervention for peace, healing, and restoration during the holy season.
"Let us pray for the strength to forgive, the courage to reconcile, and the wisdom to restore normalcy to our land.
We believe that peace is not only possible but also a divine calling for us all," it said.
"AMCO stands firm in its commitment to justice, peace, and the protection of all lives, especially those of the women and children of Manipur...
May God's love reign over the land, bringing healing, harmony, and hope to all people of Manipur and regions beyond," it said.
