Imphal, December 24 2024:
The Imphal Naga Forum (INF) marked the Advent Christmas celebration on Monday, at its makeshift office in Chingmeirong.
The event included prayers, singing of Christmas hymns, and sharing traditional dishes, including pork cooked with bamboo shoots, coffee, and other delicacies.
Gifts and presentations added to the festive atmosphere.
According to a statement of INF, the programme was presided over by convenor Ambition Anth, and attended by former UNC president and ex M P candidate Kho John.
INF chief advisor Dr Chance Raman delivered a talk on the relevance and spirit of Christmas in modern times.
Quoting Isaiah 9:6, Dr Raman emphasised the significance of the birth of Jesus Christ as the "Prince of Peace" and urged participants to embrace the message of love and peace.
Sharing his experience in Thailand, he highlighted the contrast between the festive decorations and the lack of awareness about the essence of Christmas in the predominantly Buddhist nation.
The event also included prayers for peace and communal harmony in the state, particularly for those displaced by ongoing ethnic violence.
