Imphal, August 18 2025:
All medical colleges have now incorporated a formative period programme aimed at fostering stronger doctor-patient relationships, stated Shija Hospitals chairman cum managing director Dr Palin Khundongbam, while speaking at a felicitation function for successful NEET (UG) 2025 candidates, organised by Chemistry One Stop Solution on Monday at the Loktak Hall of Manipur Press Club.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Palin observed that new medical students, despite achieving high marks, often lack proficiency in practical exercises and crucial communication skills, especially when interacting with patients.
To address this gap, the National Medical Commission introduced a programme called formative period for all medical colleges.

The programme will teach empathy and communication skills, entrepreneurship and leadership skills, he informed, while adding the absence of the same would affect societal relations.
Dr Palin noted that students appearing for NEET clear the exam under a lot of pressure whether from family or others.
"Each candidate is a seed and needs to have the courage to become a big tree in the future.
Thus, there is a need to acknowledge the potential and energy of the candidates," he said, stressing the need to ensure a disturbance-free environment, and refrain from inflating egos.
Understanding this could help bring peace, he remarked.
In his speech, Chemistry One Stop Solution founder Laishram Krishnakanta also emphasised the need for doctors to be empathetic and communicate with the patients they are treating.
The function was also attended by YK College, Wangjing principal Prof Khundrakpam Jugin Singh as president, while Globiz Web Solution Private Limited managing director Roshnikumar Yambem, Babina Multispecialty Hospital consultant urologist Dr Amitkumar Khwairakpam and Nepra Company Junior High School, Thoubal retired headmaster Ningthoujam Bheigya Singh were the guests of honour.
