'Ministry apprised for CSC for Keirao weavers'

Stating that Keirao assembly constituency has one of the largest concentration of weavers in the state, Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameshwar said that the government is pursuing with the Ministry of Handloom and Textiles for establishing a Common Service Centre (CSC) for weavers in the constituency.
Speaking at a distribution programme of handlooni machineries and materials to weavers of Langdum held at the local community hall on Thursday, Rameshwar informed that Rani Phee is one of the most demanded products of weavers of the constituency though most of the marketing is done in Imphal city.
Moreover, handloom products of Mar-ing and Kabui communities produced by the weavers of their respective communi ties are also in high demand.
Handloom machineries and materials have been distributed to 190 weavers so far besides 10 beneficiaries provided cash assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh each for construction of work sheds.
Establishment of a CSC for weavers and handloom machineries for 500 more weavers is on the card as the proposals have been submitted to the Ministry, he said.
Weavers' Service Centre deputy director Priyadarshi Daripa, who also attended the programme, expressed hope that the machineries and materials will help the weavers enhance their economy.
There are 2.24 lakh weavers in the state as per the latest handloom census, the deputy director added.
The handloom machineries and materials were distributed through Weavers' Service Centre, Porompat under the Office of the Development Commissioner.
