NIA Imphal conducts medical camp for IDPs

A free medical camp was organised at Santhong community hall relief camp, Moirang, by Network in Action (NIA), Imphal chapter in collaboration with office of the Chief Medical Officer, Bishnupur district, under the theme "Together for a Healthier Community" on Saturday.
According to a statement issued by NIA Imphal, the camp held as part of its first community service project, benefitted over 200 displaced individuals and families staying in the relief camp.
Specialised healthcare services were provided by doctors and medical staff across four departments including general medicine, paediatrics, gynaecology and dermatology, with the support of pharmacists from CMO Bishnupur.
Free blood testing facilities were also arranged by both CMO and NIA, the statement added.
Essential medicines covering common ailments such as fever, cold, cough, stomach disorders, antibiotics, nutritional supplements and specialised medicines for skin and women's health were distributed free of cost to the residents.
The statement further informed that a clinical psychologist con ducted counselling session for students focusing on stress, peer pressure and resilience-building.
To ensure better hygiene, NIA also distributed bleaching powder and phenyl to camp authorities.
The release noted that members of NIA Imphal, comprising entrepreneurs and corporate leaders from diverse sectors including JCRE Group, BABINA Group, Classic Group of Hotels, Padma Medicare, Goertrip, Seven Sisters Holidays and others, actively supported the initiative.
It added that the organisation plans to take up similar community service activities for underserved groups across Manipur in the future.
The Santhong Relief Camp currently houses 416 residents, all internally displaced persons (IDPs) from areas affected by the May 3 ethnic violence, the statement said.
