TSA-GHQ refutes Thadou Inpi claim

Kangpokpi, January 12 2024: Thadou Students' Association-General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ) has refuted the statement made by "the so called" Thadou Inpi-General Headquarters (TI-GHQ) on December 28, asserting that the statement in question was issued utilising false letterhead of TI-GHQ.

As per a release of TSA ministry of information, media & broadcasting, the term of TI-GHQ for the 2019-2022 tenure had already lapsed in June 2023, following which most of the executive members resigned.

"To our utter shock, the recent press release in the name of TI-GHQ was found to be the handiwork of TI-GHQ ex-president Lamminthang Kipgen," it said.

TSA-GHQ conveyed that the ex-president had done that for his own vested interests and political motives and therefore, informed all concerned that until duly reconstituted, any statement made in the name of TI-GHQ is to be dismissed as null and void.

"Thus, in the absence of the functional Thadou apex body, the TSA-GHQ is forced to take up the general affairs of the Thadou tribe until TI-GHQ is reconstituted," it said.

The release also clarified that there is no apex body of the Thadou tribe other than the Thadou Inpi (TI-GHQ) and the Thadou Tribe Council (TTC) was renamed as Thadou Inpi (Tl) at the Thadou Conclave, Delhi-2015.Therefore, any illegitimate claim of re-establishment of TTC in Lamka, Churachandpur by some vested individuals to cause confusion in the community should not be entertained, as there is no such organisation to represent the Thadou tribe at any level, it clarified.

TSA-GHQ further noted that its term for 2020-2023 ended on March 31, 2023.However, on February 28, 2023, during the 65th TSA General Assembly, the House unanimously resolved to extend the TSA-GHQ's tenure for an additional six months till September 30, 2023, in view of the mega Hun-Thadou Cultural Festival, 2023 held on April 18-19, 2023 .

"Following this, the TSA-GHQ Election Commission of the General Headquarters (ECGHQ) with TSA-GHQ Permanent Council chairman as the ECGHQ returning office-cum-chief election commissioner conducted the general election of TSA-GHQ Central Working Committee (CWC) for the tenure of 2023-26 at the 66th TSA General Assembly held on September 28-2?, 2023, in Guwahati, Assam".

"Therefore, the election of incumbent members of the TSA-GHQ CWC is as per the norms of TSA Constitution, which is legally valid and legitimate.

Thus, terming of the incumbent leaders of the TSA-GHQ as self-appointed is only a desperate attempt to malign and defame the image of the grand old Thadou Students' Association and its able leaders," it emphasised.

The release further counselled the 'Thadous' to exercise great courage, discernment and wisdom in the best and larger interest of the community and in protecting the villages, the land and social harmony at this crucial time.
